12 04 19 – Week 1:
In the first week of creating my final major project I researched into the Simulation Theory to help me understand how it works to advice the storyline for my short film and to make sure it has relativity. I then researched into how the Simulation theory is seen in the Matrix and AI in Blade Runner as they are both big inspiration for this short film. After that I then did research on the genre of Science Fiction itself to give myself a refresher on the genre and then I begun to write my script for my short film. At the time of writing this I am still in the middle of creating the script for the film however, I am aiming for it to be completed by the end of easter holidays and have a storyboard completed also to create an animatic.
19 04 19 – Week 2 & 3:
Over the easter holidays I lost my motivation and my belief in creating live action films. I’ve come to realise that if I want to create the film I want to create I need the money and the equipment needed to do so, I’m a big dreamer and when it comes to me not being able to do what I want and create the idea I have in my mind I become frustrated. Because of this I am going to instead do what I originally began doing when I first came onto the creative courses and my first actual true interest in this field which was photography. For this final major project I will now be photographing portraits of people in sceneries on a film camera which I have never done before and film my entire learning progress and document how I feel about using film cameras, my experience and what I have learnt and what I can now improve on for the future. I am not solidly set on a title yet as I’m having a conflict with myself on what title I should choose and what I should do it on.
For what I will do after all this is still a unknown, I am not sure whether I want to go into the direction of game development or go into creating animated films, We will just have to wait and see.
03 05 19 – Week 4:
During this week I have not really done much, I like what I am doing at it is what I want to do, but I’ve lost the care in doing it, I want to do it, but not in these circumstances. Now I cannot lie I have been procrastinating and I have tried writing down in this reflective journal different reasons and making excuses on why I have not been doing the work, however I need to realise that I cannot just sit here on my backside expecting everything to just come to me, people will not look to hire me and give me work as I have not made myself noticeable and this is a big problem. Hopefully I will make the effort and you will see improvements in my work and my reflective journal next week… hopefully.
10 05 19 – Week 5:
This week I was given the Film Camera which is a Pentax K1000 with a 50mm prime lens. My tutor Chris gave me two rolls of film and sent me on my way. I looked on YouTube how to load and unload and roll of film and I was ready to begin. I took a few photos to test what it was like to photograph with a film camera and Chris also gave me a few tips when it came to exposure. After college me, Martin and Hannah went out and took a few photos however, Martin told me about a party he had coming up on Friday which I could go to and take photographs of the people at the party.
17 05 19 – Week 6:
This week I had another meltdown and was fighting myself on what I should be doing however after a talk with my tutor Beth, she reassured that my project, my subject matter and everything was fine and I was just stressing out over nothing and she helped me put myself into gear. I have completed the research part for my work and have now began pre – production where I have been planning how scenes are going to play out as I’ve been writing the script and I have also sent off my rolls of film for development.
24 05 19 – Week 7:
The developed photographs were delivered and I am happy with how they came out and you can clearly see my progression and improvement just between two rolls of film. I have begun writing out a working script and have started creating a storyboard for the piece and will begin to film the short documentary the weekend before half term.
31 05 19 – Week 8 & 9:
I filmed footage during the half term for my short documentary with my friend Martin, we went around the areas where we had taken photographs on the film camera previously and tried to recreate one piece that I had photographed. The sequence on the train however was actually filmed on the day that we were shooting photographs at the party, and the part where we talked about the abandoned shed was just added in for effect. After half term when I returned to college I finished the editing for my final video and exported it, I then painted the frame, glued the photographs to a A1 sized bored and pieced my frame together ready for the exhibition.
12 06 19 – Final Week:
In this week I completed my frame and any paperwork that I had left to complete and then on the day of the exhibition I set up my frame and photographs on the wall while also adding extra photographs around the frame just to add more to the final piece. I then helped around the museum however much I could and then sat back and watched as people enjoyed my work.
